Rolling Health & Wellness Festival/Expo Begins in Savannah Then Heads to Augusta
April 21, 2008 - As Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta seeks to promote better health and wellness for Georgia’s youth, the not-for-profit organization has teamed up with the Tour de Georgia’s Health and Wellness Expo at each finish line including: Savannah, Augusta, Gainesville, Braselton (Road Atlanta), Dahlonega, Brasstown Bald Mountain/Towns Co. and Atlanta. All proceeds from the Tour de Georgia benefit the Aflac Cancer Center and Blood Disorders Service of Children’s.
SAVANNAH - Monday, the Tour de Georgia cyclists began Stage 1 of the race from Tybee Island to Savannah. Children’s provided a fun environment where parents and children learned important information on healthy lifestyles and injury prevention at the Health and Wellness Expo.
"In addition to interactive games and educational materials, today's Health & Wellness Expo served to engage attendees with a Commitment Banner, where families committed to incorporate one healthy habit into their daily routine," said Seema Csukas, M.D., director of Child Health Promotion, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
During the Health & Wellness Expo for Stage 1, attendees enjoyed:
- a prize wheel
- a safety house for injury prevention education
- a commitment banner for healthy habits
- bike helmet checks
- interactive fitness games

As the Tour de Georgia cyclists race from Statesboro and roll into Augusta Tuesday, Children’s will be providing a fun environment where parents and children can learn important information on healthy lifestyles and injury prevention at the Health and Wellness Expo.

Centennial Olympic Park – Atlanta
Sunday, April 27 - 8:30 a.m.
The Tour de Kids 5K Run/Walk gives participants a unique experience along the finishing circuit of the Tour de Georgia - while giving back to the community. This 5K run/walk begins in Centennial Olympic Park on Peachtree Street then back – highlighting downtown Atlanta. Adult entries are $20.00, children $15.00 (16 and younger), family of 4 (2 adults/2 children) $55.00 and $15.00 for each additional child.
