DAILY MEDIA ALERT: Tour de Georgia and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta

Rolling Health & Wellness Festival/Expo Rolls from Statesboro to Augusta

April 22, 2008 - As Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta seeks to promote better health and wellness for Georgia’s youth, the not-for-profit organization has teamed up with the Tour de Georgia’s Health and Wellness Expo at each finish line including: Savannah, Augusta, Gainesville, Braselton (Road Atlanta), Dahlonega, Brasstown Bald Mountain/Towns Co. and Atlanta.  All proceeds from the Tour de Georgia benefit the Aflac Cancer Center and Blood Disorders Service of Children’s.

 

 

 

AUGUSTA - Tuesday, the Tour de Georgia cyclists completed Stage Two of the race from Statesboro to Augusta . Children’s provided a fun environment where parents and children learned important information on healthy lifestyles and injury prevention at the Health and Wellness Expo. 

 

 

 

"Today in Augusta , we continued to share health and wellness information with race and expo attendees. The sock game, a riotous exercise activity combining jumping jacks and dancing, was a hit with kids and helped us to share the importance of physical activity, no matter what it is," said Seema Csukas, M.D., Ph.D., director of Child Health Promotion, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

Wednesday in Gainesville , Safe Kids Georgia will be engaging attendees with a bike rodeo and helmet safety information, as well as:

 

 

  • a prize wheel

     

  • a commitment banner for healthy habits

     

  • injury prevention educational materials

Wednesday in GAINESVILLE (April 23, 2008)

Stage Three will be underway as the Tour de Georgia cyclists race from Washington and roll into Gainesville tomorrow. Children’s will be providing a fun environment where parents and children can learn important information on healthy lifestyles and injury prevention at the Health and Wellness Expo. 

 

 

 

 

In addition, N2 a Cure, a 32-mile charity ride will be held at the Stage 3 finish of the Tour de Georgia in downtown Gainesville . This ride is for cyclists of all levels will be led by special guest Nathan O'Neill, eight-time Australian Time Trial Champion and local pro rider. This recreational bike ride benefits the Aflac Cancer Center and Blood Disorders Service of Children’s.
