2008 Beneficiary: Critical Care Services

Proceeds from the 2008 Children’s Holiday Gala and the Children’s Christmas Parade benefit the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Critical Care services.

At Children’s, Critical Care service areas provide specialized, comprehensive care for seriously ill and injured children in a state-of-the-art environment. Critical Care services at Children’s include the Neonatal Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs), which care for high-risk newborns. For critically ill and injured children of all ages, the Pediatric Intensive Care Units (PICUs) also offer a wide range of services, and along with the Children’s NICU, provide access to more than 400 specialists in 30 pediatric, medical and surgical specialties. Children who require personalized care and high-tech treatment are cared for in the Technology-assisted Intensive Care Unit (TICU) at Children’s, which offers advanced technology and equipment—sized just for children—for a wide range of illnesses and injuries.

Leading-edge technology is also used to treat children with extracorporeal embrane oxygenation (ECMO) services. Children’s is one of only two centers in Georgia to offer ECMO, which assumes a patient’s heart and lung functions and allow these organs to heal during critical illness.

Children’s, a not-for-profit organization, relies on the generosity of our cmmunity to provide thousands of children each year with the critical care they need to fight battles against illness and injuries.
